This image takes me back to one of the hottest days I have experienced in my years. The thermometer read forty-five degrees celcius but with humidity it felt like fifty plus. The hot air upon exiting a building hit your face you like the impact of a molten snowball . My family and I were in Porto Heli, Greece. The beach was out of the question so we opted for the pool. There were shaded rest areas and misters. Not one for the aquatic sports I picked a table nearest the pool to keep an eye on the family who love the water.
A server gave me a beverage menu and I selected DAMM’S INEDIT. This is a collaborative effort between an award winning chef and the brewmasters of DAMM (Barcelona). It was wheaty with citrus and spice hints I recall now just writing this. I had some grilled squid with slices of orange on the table and it paired perfectly. The spice bringing out the sweetness of the orange and the earthiness of the squid.
I chose this beer because it was the biggest by volume, 750 ml on a sizzling day and discovered a treat. Two beers later the heat was tolerable as I was hydrated properly.
Now two years later I look back on everything that has happened but can carry myself back to an afternoon where the heat made me discover a palate pleasing beverage. Those moments in time are beautiful pages in our lifes book.
